Folktales and Myths - Illustrated Short Stories
This do-si-do book is a short story adventure for children that combines a Chinese folktale and an Inuit myth. Each describes the origin of the sun as how a crow brought daylight to the world, featuring original illustration and a focus on typesetting.
A major element of the design features a simple, black and white visual that transforms into a colorful sense of depth and immersion as the reader moves from page to page. This detail development acts as a vivid parallel for the written story as the narrative describes a world moving from darkness to one of bright light and new sensations.
Readers are guided to follow the main character as the fictional universe is uncovered, each section leading to the middle for a final crescendo of color and the unifying theme.
Online Redesign
A website was created to showcase an illustrated style though digital media, reinventing one of the book’s stories in an interactive space. The web version successfully recreates the presentation of each page with the addition of new visual elements, such as animation and horizontal scrolling. The purpose of the redesign was to compare multiple methods of storytelling, exploring the experience on paper versus the modern screen.
